Abstract:

In this presentation, I describe studies (in collaboration with Prof. Arun Ghosh, Purdue University) aimed at the design of sub-nanomolar inhibitors of HIV-1 protease.  Particular attention is focused on the problem of drug-resistant mutants, and a strategy has been employed to limit the ability of the virus to generate resistant mutants.  One of the compounds described has been approved by the FDA for use in patients that have developed resistance to other protease inhibitors.
